What is Cerebral Palsy?

Causes of Cerebral Palsy

The causes of cerebral palsy are complex, including heredity and acquisition. The latter is divided into pre-birth, perinatal and post-natal etiology, and many children cannot find a clear cause.

1. Causes before birth (pre-birth). Including embryonic brain developmental malformations, congenital hydrocephalus , maternal severe infection (especially viral infection) in early pregnancy, severe nutritional deficiencies, trauma, poisoning (such as pregnancy toxemia) and radiation exposure The effect is not obvious.

2. Causes of perinatal period. Case analysis shows that premature delivery is a definite cause of cerebral palsy. Long delivery time, umbilical cord around the neck, placental abruption, placenta previa, amniotic fluid blockage, and meconium inhalation cause fetal cerebral hypoxia, dystocia or expired infants with a long labor process, forceps injury and intracranial hemorrhage are common perioperative Causes during birth. Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia caused by maternal and child blood group incompatibility or other reasons, such as serum unbound bilirubin> 340μmol / L may develop into bilirubin encephalopathy and cause cerebral palsy.

3. Causes after birth (post-natal). Including various infections, trauma, poisoning, intracranial hemorrhage and severe asphyxia. High-risk factors for cerebral palsy include maternal prenatal seizures, hyperthyroidism and toxemia, hemorrhage within 3 months of the last trimester of pregnancy, weakness in labor, placental abruption, placenta previa and breech birth, etc. Premature delivery, low birth weight, etc. Cerebral palsy in China occurs mostly in babies born prematurely, low birth weight, hypoxia during delivery, and postpartum jaundice.
